WORCESTER, Mass. - President Joe Biden addressed immigration -- among other issues -- on day one in office.

A local immigration lawyer calls the steps he took "monumental."

The President’s plan includes the Department of Homeland Security pausing some deportations for 100 days. It also provides protection to DACA recipients also known as "Dreamers". DACA protects undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children from deportation.

Immigration lawyer Randy Feldman says the President proposed his own 100- page comprehensive Immigration Bill, something he says many former Presidents have left up to Congress. It would allow millions of undocumented immigrants a pathway towards citizenship.

Feldman said, "I think this is very consistent with the values of America, the values of a majority of Americans and a complete and utter break from the values espoused by former president Trump."

Feldman says he hopes Congress can find a compromise for President Biden’s immigration proposal by the end of the year.
