WORCESTER, Mass. - Construction on a new municipal park will start in less than a month.
According to the City of Worcester, construction of the Coal Mine Brook park will start July 1. The new park will open in a lot between Plantation Street and North Lake Avenue. The end of the parking along North Lake Avenue will be directly across the street from Lake Quinsigamond.
The park will include a recreational facility, playground, and adult fitness area. Other installments include overlooks of Coal Mine Brook, educational kiosks at the overlooks, picnic areas, pedestrian lighting, accessible walkways and parking lot, perimeter wooden guardrails and fencing, tree trimming and tree plantings.
The project will also include improvements to the nearby East-West hiking trail area.
In October 2021, the City of Worcester received a $750,000 National Park Service grant to renovate the Coal Mine Brook area.
