WORCESTER, Mass. - A new Anti-Defamation League report shows Massachusetts is one of five states with the most incidents of antisemitism.

The report shows antisemitic incidents in New England reached an all-time high in 2024.

Massachusetts alone recorded 438 incidents, up from 152 in 2022.

College campuses saw a bigger increase than any other location.

Steven Schimmel is the Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Central Massachusetts.

He said the report is consistent with what the Jewish community experiences every day.

"The numbers themselves are shocking, and sometimes you need to look at the data itself rather than the stories, the anecdotes, which I think are also very important” said Schimmel. “It's one thing to look on a piece of paper and say, oh there’s a 344% increase in incidents over five years, but it's another to tell about how each of these incidents has impacted the lives of a college student, or a Jewish community member, or Jewish community center, or another institution in within the Jewish community."

State Senator John Velis co-leads the state's commission on combating antisemitism.

He called the findings sickening and said the state has to do more to root out hate.
