For first responders in the town of Westborough, the fire department averaged up to thirty emergency call a day during this week's heat wave. Chief Patrick Purcell says during hot and humid weather they encourage their firefighters to stay hydrated and take breaks. However downtown can be limited when they are responding to well over twenty calls in a twenty-hour hour shift. He said they encourage people to take it easy during times of hot weather and to check on their neighbors. Chief Purcell, "We're just trying to make sure we're taking care of our vulnerable populations meaning kids and senior citizens and doing everything we can to encourage the use of a cooling center and just really making sure neighbors are checking on neighbors to make sure everything is okay."

Purcell added that the department is seeing more traffic accidents that they typically see when hot weather arrives. He's asked people to stay calm behind the wheel.
