WORCESTER, Mass. - A local inflatable display is growing each year and raising money for Why Me & Sherry's House.
What You Need To Know
- The Cornwell Holiday Display features more than 160 inflatables for Halloween and more than 200 for Christmas
- The display is free to visit and accepts donations which all go to Why Me & Sherry's House in Worcester to support Central New England families coping with childhood cancer
- Alex Cornwell has the Halloween display up until Nov. 1 when he starts preparing for Christmas
“Got three minions, and a ghost, and skull," Alejandro Paredes said, "and Scooby Doo!”
The yard at 26 Dawson Road in Worcester is full of characters and some familiar faces.
“So, there's 164 inflatables right now," Alex Cornwell said. "It takes me about four weeks to set this up. And then November 1, I have four weeks to take all of these down and put even more up for Christmas.”
Alex Cornwell started his holiday display tradition in 2019 with about 40 inflatables and as the show grows each year, so does the workload.
“I just spent six hours today," Cornwell said, "replacing 177 light bulbs with LED light bulbs.”
The Cornwell Holiday Display welcomes everyone to come and take a walk around the property and Cornwell said visitors make all the preparation worth it.
“We love it. Kid friendly, not too scary,” Rhiannon Paredes said. "Every year, he's got new things for us to look at, right?”
“The kids faces, the smiles," Cornwell said, "the, ‘Oh my gosh, look at that.’ I love to hear it. I love to see it.”
Cornwell also puts out the displays to raise money for a local cause close to his heart.
“When I was four months old, I was diagnosed with cancer and Why Me helped me and my family. So, we give back," Cornwell said. "We do not charge admission. We ask kindly that you donate to charity and 100% of that goes to charity. Nothing funds this except for my bank account.”
The Cornwell Holiday Display is even bigger at Christmas time with more than 200 inflatables and he encourages anyone interested in making their yard come to life for any holiday to do so.
“Definitely get into it. It's a lot of fun," Cornwell said. "It's not easy at first, but once you start doing it, you'll get definitely used to it.”
And until midnight on October 31 -
“Happy Halloween,” Alejandro said.
Cornwell looking forward to the Nov. 1 turnover day when he takes Halloween down and starts preparing for Christmas.
