GARDNER, Mass. — The investigation into the man wanted in connection to the 2023 killing of Breanne Pennington resumed on Thursday. A large-scale police operation could be seen at the camp near where Aaron Pennington's car was found more than two years.

A large police presence in the Camp Collier area of Gardner as the search continued for Aaron Pennington, the man who allegedly killed his wife inside their Gardner home more than two years ago.

Camp Collier in Gardner serving as a staging area on Thursday for the search of Pennington who remains wanted for the murder of his wife, Breanne, in October 2023.

State and local police were joined by civilian volunteers from the Central Massachusetts Search and Rescue team.

“I love doing search and rescue," Amanda Cabral said. "I love helping people, especially just giving some closure to whether the family of the deceased, the family of the lost person. Just helping people. Helping the state police with whatever they need.”

“Looking to give some peace to the families," Joanne Tobey said. "And that's why we're out here. It has been, I think it's just been over two years since he was missing.”

Those on scene said Thursday's search lasted about five hours through a large, and at some points swampy, area of woods — but there was no sign of Pennington found.

“Anything's possible. It would be great if we could find something," Cabral said. "It's just a matter of luck at this point, being in the right place at the right time. And make sure - yeah, it’s just luck.”

Parts of the dense woods around Camp Collier in Gardner have been searched before as police continue to look for the fugitive and local volunteers say they’re hoping to help provide some closure as it is still unknown if Pennington is dead or alive.
