WORCESTER, Mass. - City leaders in Worcester broke ground Friday on a new resource center designed to assist individuals experiencing homelessness. Organizers stated that the day center will serve as a centralized location to support community members, offering essential services such as housing, wellness, and employment assistance. The Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance (CMHA) will operate and staff the facility at the corner of Gold and Sargent Streets.
"We're going to have a place next winter where individuals experiencing homelessness can shower, eat, and have their laundry done — things we often take for granted,” said Leah Bradley, Chief Executive Officer of CMHA.
"This is an important milestone, a significant achievement,” said Worcester City Manager Eric Batista. “Today is a great and exciting day for Worcester, as we've established a stable location for our community.”
According to Bradley, the Day Resource Center will provide people with a place to shower, get food, do laundry, charge phones and other daily activities.
Worcester City Manager said the expected opening date for Phase 1 is "sometime in the winter, if not the spring."
