MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - The MetroWest Regional Fan Zone in Marlborough is providing a World Cup fan experience with hospital-level care on-site provided by UMass Memorial Health’s Deployable Medical Team.

“An event like this is going to have thousands of people," DMT director Dr. Michael Weiner said, "certainly we have to consider that and how we prepare for events like this. So, the DMT, the deployable medical team with UMass is here to keep an eye on everybody, make sure everybody's having a good time and doing so safely and in a healthy way. It's certainly going to be very hot here.”

The DMT’s specialized mobile clinic is prepared to help a wide range of potential patients.

“Really prepared for anything," Stephanie Mayberg said. "This is kind of our main treatment area. We here have lots of supplies that we are able to use. This actually is our mobile lab and this would allow us to be able to check somebody’s electrolytes.

Weiner said the team’s work wouldn’t be possible without the UMass providers they have, and the philanthropic community support they receive.

The team said they are happy to be on-site for the World Cup through Saturday.

“I think it's really fantastic that we are able to bring skilled providers out into the community, ensuring that we keep people safe, and we keep our ER beds open for patients that really need the emergency beds," Mayberg said. "But then also we can keep our community safe.”

“Even if we weren't being medical support, we'd be happy to be here," Weiner said. "But filling a functional role is exactly what we would love to do.
