Today at a ceremony at the Hart Center on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross, Governor Maura Healey and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts officially renamed the Interstate 290 bridge over Southbridge Street in the city of Worcester "Cousy Pass" after Holy Cross and NBA Hall of Famer Bob Cousy.
Governor Healey said during the dedication that when travelers drive over the bridge they'll think about more than Cousy's basketball acumen, "It's a beautiful, beautiful gift to our state. I know it is to Worcester and certainly to Holy Cross to know that this Bob Cousy Pass is right here. People will be traveling over it multiple times a day and your name is there and they're going to think of one incredible human being."er
Cousy, who has lived in Worcester since he arrived on the campus of Holy Cross nearly eighty years ago said the city is a special place for him and his family, "What I love is that connection with this city that I've bonded with for 80 years now, who really provided a safe haven for my family and I."
Cousy is a member of the College of the Holy Cross class of 1950 and was a member of the 1947 NCAA championship team.
