Opening Day is always special for baseball fans but the Worcester Red Sox faithful got a special treat for the home opener as Red Sox legend "The Rocket" Roger Clemens threw out the first pitch. Clemens delivered a strike to current WooSox hitting instructor and his former batter mate Rich Gedman.

Prior to the first pitch Clemens spoke to Spectrum News 1 looking back at his early days as a Red Sox. "For me, you know, Boston being my home, getting drafted out of the University of Texas, winning the Eastern League. And before I actually went back to Texas after that season, the Sox had me come and that's the first time I got to see Fenway Park. So I thought it was amazing. And actually, the game, I still remember it. It was Dennis Eckersley. It was pitched against Jim Palmer.  And so I got to see those two guys work and so that was a treat for me."

Clemens continued by revealing a legendary pitcher that was a huge influence on him early in his Boston career. "You know, my other biggest moment for me is, you know, I'm a power pitcher. I was always, was a power pitcher. Yes, I threw hard, but you know, I tell the guys, you're not a thrower, you're a pitcher. And for me, I think you guys know that when I was in high school, I was sneaking the AstroDome to watch Nolan Ryan warm up. But for me, the ultimate power pitcher was Tom Seaver, Tom Terrific. It was a luxury that we acquired him when I was young. I had the opportunity to speak to him. I know Tom got hurt and wasn't able to be in the playoffs with us, but it was a treat for me to be able to pick his mind and really watch a 40-year-old man out there. I never dreamed that I would pitch into my 40s, but I got to watch a 40-year-old man out there going to work and being the ultimate power pitcher."
