WASHINGTON — After a year of silence, the social media account for former Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is active once more.
What You Need To Know
- The account is being rebranded from "Kamala HQ" to "Headquarters," an online organizing project for young people ahead of the 2026 midterm elections
- The project is a partnership between Harris and the national progressive advocacy group People for the American Way
- Harris announced the rebrand in a video and a blog post via Substack
- The newly renamed Headquarters account has over 1 million followers on X and more than 5 million on TikTok
But the account is not promoting Harris for an elected office. Instead, it’s being rebranded from "Kamala HQ" to "Headquarters," an online organizing project for young people ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The project is a partnership between Harris and the national progressive advocacy group People for the American Way, and aims to build an organizing infrastructure that outlasts political cycles. Harris will be chair emerita of the group, and will not have editorial oversight of the project, leaving that to staff of People for the American Way.
Harris’ top senior advisers Kirsten Allen and former deputy campaign manager Rob Flaherty will work on the project, as well Parker Butler and Lauren Kapp, who led the KamalaHQ team in 2024. According to Luminary Strategies, which Butler and Kapp founded, the plan is to “use these accounts to help Democrats break through online ahead of the 2026 and 2028 elections.”
In a video announcing the rebrand, Harris called Headquarters the place “where you can go online to get the latest of what’s going on, and also to meet and revisit with some of our great and courageous leaders — be they elected leaders, community leaders, civic leaders, faith leaders, young leaders.”
“I’m really excited about it,” Harris said. “Stay engaged, and I’ll see you out there.”
She also posted to Substack about the new venture.
"I know this past year has not been easy for any of us," Harris wrote on Thursday in part. "In that time, I have taken stock of the state of our nation. Here is what I have concluded: The far-right has a 24/7 outrage machine online. They are casting Donald Trump as an agent of change, yet he has delivered nothing but empty promises for the American people. Under his leadership, prices, inflation, and unemployment are up. Health care costs for millions of Americans are about to double. But Donald Trump is not the only source of our problems; we must also look at the rise of the MAGA movement."
Her Substack post continued, "Democrats must improve our ability to convey our message and reach every American — including Gen Z, who are now a larger generation than the Baby Boomers and are one of our greatest assets as we confront the challenges ahead."
The newly renamed Headquarters account has over 1 million followers on X and more than 5 million on TikTok, and a press release says the group will expand to YouTube and other platforms.
The former Vice President has remained largely out of the spotlight since her defeat in the 2024 election, but she recently began the second leg of her book tour for her best selling memoir, "107 Days." That book tour runs through mid-April.
