Vice President J.D. Vance is coming to Maine on Thursday, according to a statement from the Maine Republican Party.
Vance will be at Bangor International Airport and is expected to give remarks at 12:30 p.m. It was not clear Monday what he would be discussing.
Vance’s visit to Maine’s 2nd Congressional District means he will be in GOP-friendly territory. The district voted for President Trump in the last three presidential elections.
The Trump administration, though, has clashed loudly and publicly with Gov. Janet Mills over issues ranging from voting records to immigration enforcement and transgender students.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dr. Nirav Shah rebuked Vance’s planned visit, stating, in part, “the Maine Republicans who are 'honored' to host you on Thursday should be ready to explain why they're celebrating the second-in-command of an administration whose policies are making life harder for Maine.”
