Police have identified two people shot to death in Lewiston on Sunday and declared both deaths a homicide.

The victims, according to police, are Mohammed Sheik, 30, of Auburn, and Keyt Hussein, 23, of Lewiston. They were identified after a post-mortem examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta.

Police responded to a report of a shooting on Knox Street in Lewiston on July 30 at 10:18 a.m. One person, police said, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other later died at Central Maine Medical Center.

According to the Associated Press, dozens of people emerged from nearby apartments Sunday as Lewiston and state police cordoned off the crime scene, which included a black SUV, a blue sedan with broken windows and a body that had been on the pavement for hours.

Police said the initial investigation has determined the shooting was an isolated incident, and that “investigators have spoken to people of interest and continue to process evidence from the scene.”
