A Harrington man is charged with arson following a July 17 fire, according to Maine State Police Maj. Aaron M. Turcotte.

The Maine Forest Service and the Harrington Fire Department asked for help from the state Fire Marshal's assistance in investigating a fire at 1230 Main St.

“The fire was initially reported to have been caused by an outdoor burn that spread to the residence,” Turcotte stated. “Investigators with the Office of State Fire Marshal responded to the scene and conducted a comprehensive investigation, including a detailed scene examination and numerous witness interviews.”

Investigators found the fire was caused by outdoor burning and was not accidental.

Arthur Langley, 75, of Harrington was arrested in the town of Columbia July 28 and charged with arson and reckless conduct, Turcotte said.

Langley was being held without bail at Washington County Jail pending a court appearance.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Turcotte stated.
