Maine health officials reported a slight uptick in COVID-19 hospitalizations Tuesday and another large batch of cases as they work through a backlog of omicron test results.

Hospitalizations remain low relative to the past couple of months and stand at 224 Tuesday, up from 216 Monday but still far below the peak of the 400s in January. There are now 48 people in critical care and 18 people on ventilators due to COVID-19 in Maine hospitals.

The state added 2,198 cases Tuesday, for a new cumulative total of 220,995, and reported no new deaths after adding 50 between Friday and Monday.

The state did not update other metrics such as incoming lab results or their positivity rate for Tuesday. Some updates are likely limited due to Monday’s holiday.

The statewide hospitalization rate is 1.9% as of Tuesday and the case rate is 1,651 per 10,000 people. That metric is highest in Androscoggin County at nearly 1 in 5 people. The statewide vaccination rate is around 77%.
