The 74th governor of Maine will give her second inaugural address Wednesday amid a ceremony filled with formal protocol, poetry and music.
Four years ago, Gov. Janet Mills pledged to tackle climate change by embracing clean energy, weatherizing homes and setting a goal to have 50% of the state’s electricity come from renewable resources.
She vowed to expand health care, tackle the opioid epidemic and improve education.
“We are one Maine, undivided, one family from Calais to Bethel, from York to Fort Kent,” she said.
This year the inaugural at the Augusta Civic Center will feature poems from Maine Poet Laureate Julia Bouwsma and Richard Blanco, the fifth inaugural poet in U.S. history.
Music will be by the Franklin County Fiddlers, Pihcintu Multi National Girls Choir, folk singer Dave Mallett, the Sockalexis Family Singers and the 195th Maine Army National Guard Band.
Following formal ceremonies that begin at 6 p.m., Mills will deliver her second inaugural at 7 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Reserve one at www.janetmills.com/rsvp or by calling (207) 358-9350.
