A weather event that brought a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain to parts of southern Maine caused a few headaches but no major problems or power outages.
Maine State Police reported only one accident, on Interstate 95 northbound in Wells. Photos the department posted via Twitter showed two damaged vehicles, one of which was pushed through the guardrail into the southbound lane of the highway, but the tweet reported “No serious injuries.” The accident shut down one lane on both sides of the highway while crews cleaned up.
Elsewhere in the state, power outages were at a minimum. Versant reported about 500 customers out in Brooklin Friday morning, but spokesperson Marissa Minor said, “We have our regular crews on during the day today and have some crews resting during the day to be ready to respond to any outages tonight.”
Central Maine Power, the state’s largest electricity provider, reported a similar quiet night.
“We experienced minor outages overnight, the largest of which was the result of a car crash in the Monmouth area that damaged a utility pole,” said CMP Spokesperson Jon Breed.
