BANGOR — Bangor has chosen its three newest city councilors.
According to the city clerk’s unofficial results Tuesday night, Susan Faloon, Daniel Carson and Angela Walker have won the three open seats.
Faloon raked in the majority of the votes with 3,951, followed by Carson with 2,512 and Walker with 2,231.
They were chosen from a pool of nine candidates. Visit our election results page for up-to-date results.
Prior to the results being released, Walker told Spectrum News that one of her primary goals would be to help the city’s unhoused population.
“There’s some changes that I would like to see,” said Walker. “There’s some things that I would like to support in our community as far as our homeless population, which I consider my friends here in the community.”
She added that she wants to address substance use disorders and recovery needs in the community, as well.
“I am feet on the ground with my friends here in this community,” Walker added. “I am ready to bring their concerns to the table.”
Benjamin Speed and Mallory Cook were also elected as the city’s newest school committee members from a pool of four candidates.
Cook took the majority of the votes at a tally of 3,817, with Speed garnering 3,526 votes.
Speed told Spectrum News prior to the election results coming in that he plans to promote hands-on education in the city’s schools.
“I think it’s important to attract Bangor families,” said Speed. “To get experiential education in there, and to support teachers as much as we can.”
“The first thing that I would do is really promote experiential education; experiential learning, hands-on learning, learning through doing,” he added.
Late Tuesday afternoon, Bangor’s City Clerk Lisa Goodwin said the turnout for the election was higher than anticipated.
“It’s been steady all day long,” said Goodwin. “It’s a little bit more than we had expected. We figured it might be a little slower, but it’s really nice to see everybody coming out.”
