AUGUSTA – The Maine Secretary of State’s Office will hold a hearing Friday addressing two challenges to a Lyman man being allowed to run as a Republican candidate for York County Sheriff.

David Corbett, of Lyman, is running this year as a Republican against incumbent Sheriff William King, a Democrat, according to state records. Both men are the only party-affiliated candidates listed as running.

But two people -- Brian Pellerin and Heidi Sampson – filed separate challenges alleging that Corbett is not eligible to run.

The challengers argued that Corbett has no record of “holding a supervisory position,” which Maine state law requires, according to a statement from the secretary’s office.

The hearing will take place Friday morning at the Burton Cross Office Building in Augusta, with the secretary’s director of elections, Heidi Peckham, presiding. The secretary’s office will issue a ruling on both challenges within five business days of the hearing.
