A house in Washington County was destroyed in a fire and a propane delivery driver was injured in an explosion believed to have started the blaze, officials said.
The Maine Fire Marshal's Office responded to 155 Milford Road in Grand Lake Stream at about 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 19, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.
“The fire originated at the exterior of the structure, where a delivery driver from VL Tammaro was filling residential propane tanks,” department spokesperson Shannon Moss stated. “A malfunction in the filling process caused the release of gas and an explosion occurred when the propane was ignited by an unknown ignition source.”
The single-family home was destroyed by the ensuing fire, according to Moss.
“The driver of the propane truck sustained second degree burns and was treated and released from a local hospital,” Moss said. “The owner of the property was home at the time and was not injured.”
