An issue with a chimney may have led to a fire that destroyed a home in Roxbury on Monday, officials said.

The fire at a Horseshoe Valley Road residence was reported shortly after 2 p.m., according to Maine State Police Lt. Aaron Turcotte.

First responders arrived to find the home engulfed in flames.

“The residence is considered a total loss,” Turcotte said. “Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no pets were harmed during the incident.”

Investigators believe the fire started near the woodstove and chimney system, Turcotte said, “most likely as the result of a chimney-related issue.”

“The State Fire Marshal’s Office reminds homeowners to regularly inspect and maintain woodstoves and chimneys to reduce the risk of chimney fires, especially during the heating season,” Turcotte said.
