Former gubernatorial candidate and convicted sex offender Eliot Cutler is out on bail after turning himself in to the Hancock County Jail this week.
The State of Maine Department of Corrections submitted a motion for probation revocation on Jan 14.
The Jan. 14 document states that there is probable cause to believe that Cutler violated the conditions of his release by “accessing a website that displayed sexually explicit materials, obscene or sexually explicit conduct.”
According to court documents, prosecutors allege that Cutler violated the terms of his release on Dec. 28 and Jan. 2. He is being charged with two counts of violating conditions of his release.
On Wednesday, the disgraced former attorney appeared in court remotely.
Cutler was originally convicted of possessing child pornography in 2023 and served roughly 8 months in jail before being released early for good behavior.
On Wednesday, a judge set Cutler’s bail at $10,000 and said he was not allowed to have any access to the internet, according to Hancock and Washington County District Attorney Robert Granger.
The Hancock County Jail told Spectrum News Thursday that Cutler has already made bail and been released.
Granger said the state has not yet made a decision on what it might seek for a penalty if the state's motions to revoke probation are upheld.
Another motion for probation revocation had been filed on Oct. 20, 2025, alleging that Cutler had violated the conditions of his release in September by visiting a website for a massage parlor in California. He was granted $1,000 bail at that hearing.
Cutler is due back in court on Feb. 20.
