A 15-year-old boy who was a passenger in an ATV was killed Sunday in a crash in Fort Fairfield, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Two teens were riding in a 2026 CF Moto Z Force side-by-side in a field behind Old East Road at around 7:45 p.m., department spokes Mark Latti said.
The teen who was driving, also aged 15, “turned hard to the left while accelerating, causing the front of the machine to lift and skid before rolling over and coming to rest,” Latti stated.
The passenger died of injuries sustained in the crash, according to Latti.
The driver was transported to Cary Medical Center in Caribou with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, Latti said.
Neither the passenger nor the driver were wearing helmets or safety belts, according to Latti.
Maine Wardens are investigating.
The crash came a day after a 20-year-old was killed in an ATV crash in rural Piscataquis county.
