In 2022, Kyle Courcy was living in Massachusetts when he and one of his coworkers decided they’d play on the 80 mini golf courses across the state. Three years later, the Lewiston resident would be competing internationally, placing 16th among 42 competitors who qualified for the World Adventure Golf Final in Portugal in May.

“I would have never imagined in my wildest dreams I’d be standing in Portugal playing mini golf,” said Courcy.

Courcy was ranked 177th in the 2024 American Mini Golf Alliances national rankings. He was also ranked fifth out of over 500 mini golfers that year.

“It was great being around other mini golf fans and really good players,” said Courcy. “Some of the people there have been playing mini golf for 35 years. I just soaked up every second I was there.”

Courcy’s plan is to keep practicing and staying ready for the next tournament whenever that may be.

“At the end of the day, we all want to be competitive,” said Coucy. “We all want to be at our best and if you don’t do well, just realize you’re playing with a group of friends or family and still having fun. That’s what this sport is built on.”
