CAPE ELIZABETH – In a matter of days, all the registration slots for the 2026 TD Beach to Beacon have been filled, with more than $60,000 already raised for Bangor-based Dirigo Reads.

Organizers said more than 8,000 runners have registered for the annual 10k road race, scheduled for Aug. 1. The race opened to registrants on Tuesday, but in a statement on Thursday organizers said all the positions had been filled.

The annual race typically draws thousands of runners and raises money for a different Maine-based charity every year. This year, the beneficiary is Bangor-based Dirigo Reads, a literacy program that brings books to children in local schools.

So far, registrations alone have generated $34,000, according to organizers, while the race’s sponsor, TD Bank, will also make a $30,000 donation to the charity. In previous years, the event has often generated as much as $150,000 through a combination of registration fees, donations from TD Bank and other sponsors, and other fundraising efforts.

The race starts on Route 77 outside the entrance to Crescent Beach State Park, and runs through Cape Elizabeth to finish at Fort Williams Park near the Portland Head Light lighthouse. This year marks the 28th running of the race.
