BARRE, VT – The Massachusetts man accused of killing his mother appeared in court for the first time.  

22-year-old Ryan Hanafin will be brought back to Massachusetts after waiving his extradition rights in Vermont’s Washington County Superior Court on Friday.

Hanafin was arrested in Vermont on Thursday after police named him a person-of-interest in the death of his mother, Andria Hanafin.

His mother was found dead in their Reading, Massachusetts home early Thursday from an apparent gun shot wound.

It is unclear when Hanafin will be transported back to Massachusetts.
